Allan Wells MBE

Allan Wells won the gold medal for the 100m at the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow.

He was the first Briton to do so since 1924. He also won a silver medal in the 200m making him the only British athlete ever to win two short sprint medals in one Olympics.

Wells, a winner of 4 Commonwealth gold medals, 1 silver medal and 1 bronze medal, also won The Golden Sprint title in 1981 which proved beyond doubt that Wells was the fastest sprinter in the world.

Additional accolades include multi medallist in the Europa Cup for the 100m, 200m and relay. A World Cup gold for the 100m and silver for 200m and won silver in the Golden Sprints in 1979.

He was named Greatest ever Scottish athlete and Greatest ever Scottish Olympian in 2001 and enrolled into the Scottish Sporting Hall of Fame in 2002. He was also awarded the M.B.E. in 1982.

Allan is also an Ambassador for the 2012 london Olympics and also an Ambassador for the Scottish Commonwealth Games 2014.
